Not so sure about sniffer dogs at at the entrance as was the case last year i mean womad is hardly a rave in a field now is it? my girlfriend and i always think womad not sure this year? its easy to get caught by the idea that by going to a world music festival to see bands a music that u might not have heard much of before u are missing out on something more familiar or dare i say mainstream, but there is always something that will catch u by suprise and when i look back in retrospect at the great acts i have seen at all the womads i have been to im really happy i went and summer wouldent be the same without it.
Sniffer dogs? Tell more please. PM if you lke.
Indeed there were snifferdogs on thursday afternoon inside the red gate couldnt believe it thought itt was a bit ott ,i mean i went to a couple of more hard edged festivals that didnt go that far. naturally i gave them a wide berth as im allergic to dogs , didnt see them other than just that afternoon .
I wonder what they were sniffing for, an excess of glamerous camping gear, Radio 3 type chairs maybe? Well they failed if that was the case.
Cool disguise, Alan - sniffer dog!
Hello every one- I'd really appreciate your advice. We would love to visit Womad for our first time this year with our 2 young children-but have no idea how to go about it! Can you give us some tips about whre to go, where to start? It sounds just wonderful.
We'll probably come for the day only because I imagine camping would be very crowded and noisy. Please correct me if I'm wrong
Will there be masses of queing for hours for children's activities, should we just not plan to do any?)
Will we be stuck for hours in traffic? should we arrive for around 7am or something? How go we go about setting off for home, do we need to leave before the main rush? if so, what time is it?
Please don't misunderstand me, we don't mind if all the above are drawbacks that exist, it's just that its easier if we know what to expect. thanks in advance
from my personal experience the camping is not overly noisy or crowded and they do have the campsite almost segregated to a livelier part and a 'quiet family area'. It seems to work from what I have seen.
I don't know about the traffic as I'm already there so don’t need to get in the gates on the main days. I’ve never noticed particularly long queues for anything, and certainly not the kids activities but I don't have children so I don't know for sure. WOMAD is the most wonderful place and I'm sure one day won't be enough!!
It's a very civilized festival and very friendly to children. Like Princess said, there's quieter family camping areas and livelier parts.
As for queues on and off site I have no idea as I'm always there early on a thursday and leave sometime on a monday.
Like NotsoGrumpyPrincess and SkyBlueSaddler said, family camping should be fine - and I wouldn't hesitate from camping; I agree that one day just won't be enough and you'll just want to stay anyway! there are a couple of threads with more info to help you with your decisions:
Come along and have a fantastic time
If you decide to come for just a day, it's cool to come about 11.00-11.30, there are not many people who come just for the day. Music usually starts about 12.00.
