BT River of Music this coming weekend. We were going to the Africa stage but the reports from the newly opened London Pleasure Gardens did not look promising and to be honest, we have seen most of the perfomers there before. We are therefore going to Trafalgar Square, Somerset House ( a pre Womad preview of Kimmo Pohjonen and a chance to see Penguin Cafe - couldn't get near them at Womad last year). On sunday its the Oceania Stage at the Royal Naval College - some amazing bands there, including Barons of Tang who are coming to WOMAD and Iarla O'Lionaird who is collaborating with Green Fire Islands to bring an Irish/Maori blend of music to London. Looks like a great weekend.

Wow, thanks DorsetHelen. We had tickets for the Africa stage on both Saturday and Sunday, but I hadn't realised that Iarla O'Lionaird was involved with Green Fire Islands, so have just bought tickets for the Oceania Stage instead.
Really looking forward to a pre-Womad week-end of music!

Hi Jax2000. Will be interested to know what the Pleasure Gardens are like - the Africa stage looks amazing but we have seen so many of the artisits before and the acts on the Oceania stage are all new to us ( we only heard a little of Iarla O'Lionaird last year as we were shattered and have regretted missing him ever since. )
Keep an eye out for us at Greenwich - Steve will have the bright gree Womad T shirt from 2 years ago on, and I will have last years mauve one. Always wear Womad t shirts to these events!
We could have happily gone to all the stages.

I will keep an eye out for you. I have 'un-naturally' red hair and my husband will probably have a Womad T shirt on, but I couldn't possibly guess which year he will choose! He is also 6' 6" tall!
My choice was the Africa stage on Saturday and Gary wanted the Europe Stage on Sunday but we were too late for tickets there. I am really pleased that you posted your comment.
Also if anyone would like my Africa Sunday tickets I would be happy to post them by Special Delivery rather than waste them.

And if anyone wants another two africa stage sunday tickets AND two Africa stage saturday tickets, I have some going spare as well!

OMG . . . soooooooooo tempted. xxx

Go on.....you know you want to!!! x

but if you want my saturday tickets for the sold out concert with Baaba Maal, Angelique Kidjo, Hugh Masekela & the rest, pm me with your address now as I am away thursday and friday!

Kanda Bongoman on Saturday in Llangollen......... All being well!!!!

Shellovski - very jealous really hoped KBM would play this year as he was at the first! I have an eclectic taste and have just booked tickets for Band of Horses and And You Will Know us by the Trail of Dead (One of the best live bands ever), but next gig apart from Womad is Folk By the Oak on Sunday (Great little one day festival with Cara Dillon and the Ukele Orchestra of GB) and then Elizabeth Fraser at the Royal Festival Hall (both nights)
