Most people seem to sponsor Shell by driving to womad.

SM if you are genuinely interested there is quite a good article on Wikipedia. Just search on wikipedia for Orgoni or MOSOP (Movement for the survival of the Orgoni People) Cheers

Srummymummy - don't be so sure about Radio 3 not having Reggae - Dennis Bovells Dub band were great on Sat afternoon i think a couple of years ago - a great set that had everyone dancing

A perfect opportunity to revive Matumbi - Move it up Blackbeard only 9 weeks for rehearsals!

Big thanks to Womad crew for doing the right thing and giving us the lineup, lots of new acts i dont know but im sure to be surprised by something like i always am ,ido wish there was more reggae i was there to see Dennis Bovell an the dub band and you are spot on they were brilliant and the crowd really got into it, last year was the Easy star all stars were great and before that there was Eddy grant and Lee perry as well as Toots and the maytalls at Womud. There is normally a strong reggae lineup which is good for the genre as most radio stations seem to completely ignore it for some strange reason.

When does the actual schedule come out, so that we can plan which stage, who's playing when, etc...?
I too wish that there were more reggae acts on the line up. Jimmy Cliff is more of a pop-reggae performer. I do like him, but he's not a down and dirty bass line type of roots reggae that I prefer.
Does anyone know if WOMAD has ever had a Dub Poet perform? Like Mutabaruka? I've seen him several times and he's really intense. Fantastic poetry about current politics, etc...recited to a dub beat.

Ela, there's a thread on page 3 called "The Show So Far". It's got quite a few of the bands broken down into the days they claim to be playing on their websites. It doesn't include the hairy elephant announcement from Friday as yet but I'm working on it.
Yeah, I'd like more reggae too and definitely more from Spain, or even anything from Spain.
Last year year there were fifteen bands on the Radio Three stage plus I'm sure we're down about a dozen on the other stages so more to come and more possibly.

They did say only the confirmed so I'm sure there's a few more to come . . . plus Radio 3. They seem to have listened to us so far . . . so maybe if they haven't got any reggae booked in yet they'll read this and quickly book some!!
Sorry Chris!! Didn't mean to be rude about Radio 3!! I love that stage . . . and that station!! Just I've never seen any reggae there before or heard any on the radio station . . . but I have been wrong before!!
If we don't get any more reggae the club tent (not sure what it's called, near to Radio 3 stage) was playing some pretty hardcore reggae nearly every night last year in the very late and wee hours!! . . . Or so the other half tells me! xxx
SC and SBS . . . I have no idea what you're on about but you have intrigued me so I will certainly look it up on wiki!! I do agree with Mr Beef's comment as well though! xxx
Peace n love to all xxx

Have read the article . . . I was aware of this actually but just didn't realise the people were called Ogoni.
I really don't want to turn this thread into another Shell/Womad debate!! But if you go back and read my comments on the Shell/Womad thread you will see that I don't like the affilliation any more than you do! But when it comes down to it, we have all decided for whatever reason to go anyway . . . and as Mr. Beef says probably drive our cars there. So all I meant by my previous comment was at this time . . . when the line up's just come out and everybody's starting to get excited and look forward to it . . . is that really the time to be hammering the issue??? It's not helping anything.
The Shell issue goes waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy beyond Womad and I'm sure Womad are aware of everybody's feelings by now.
