At 81 years old Maestro Cecil Taylor doesn't stop to created ! He was at the Knitting Factory Wiliamsbourg to check out Gary Lucas playing; he liked the way "God and Monsters" grooved and has the idea to invite Gary Lucas to perform together in a new project including his music, poetry and rock stuff!. Awesome!!!
Astonishingly, Gary Lucas has refused to do that project provoking a fiery rhetoric on the maestros end. WHO refuses to play with Cecil Taylor?!.
It seems Gary Lucas is just recovering from an accident on which he had broken his elbow
.?
Certain is : in 75 years of Cecil Taylors career no guitar player has been invited to perform rock music while Taylor plays his piano and do his poetry. This was the second unfortunate event for Lucas (check out Dean Bowman's blog : http://blogs.myspace.com/deanbowmanvoxpopuli) and has provoked a fiery rhetoric on Cecil Taylor.
Nonetheless Taylor settled the project with the band mates of Gary Lucas and Lucas special guest Mike Edison. The project will be launched at Knitting Factory with new compositions from Cecil Taylor and poetry by Cecil Taylor and Amiri Baraka!. Cecil Taylor still an amazing inventor and jazz master. Amiri Baraka and Taylor do not share stages since 40 years ago.
Do not miss this meeting
which of course will be without Gary Lucas
.

This is so weird....Why Gary Lucas would say no to the greatets Cecil Taylor?.
I heard Gary had a bad accident last year and his elbow was smashed.
Can he plays the guitar now?

despite the accident and the lose of 80 % of his capacities in the arm he can play but...its particularly sad since he should above pettiness ( and pettiness happens with EVERY artist who performs with him)....May be that's the reason he prefers solos but hee doesn't have too much a year. On financial crisis time who wants to pay money for a solo of Gary Lucas?
