  I suppose JayCee means that some day visitors are like kiddies in a sweet shop, trying to cram it all in at once, pushing to the front of stages to see their favourite act. Ideally I don't think festivals should sell day tickets - but then my brother would never have got the Womad vibe if I hadn't bought him one all those years ago. It's an opportunity for those to sample a festival like Womad but I'm against people buying them just to see one act. Womad should be about the whole vibe, not just a couple of hours. They're not on sale yet anyway, just checked.

  Day tickets, if sold are for Sat and Sun only. Licensing restrictions do not allow the sale of Friday day tickets, and Thursday tickets are for weekend ticket holders only.

  News to me Al_G. I can't say as I've ever noticed a difference from Friday to Saturday. I have noticed that a lot more tents seem to appear on a Friday morning after I've gone a wandering for breakfast, so much so that I get lost some times but that's about the only day to day change that registers.

  I guess it is a bit sad if people only turn up to see one band but that's life and like PD said, it can turn them onto the other great music going on. You've got to sell the day tickets anyway, partly for commercial reasons but also for those people who can't do the whole thing because of other commitments. I wouldn't like to think of people in our emergency services missing out on something they'd love because of their jobs.

  The day trippers are cool with me, so long as they don't make barricades out of folding chairs and push wheelbarrows full of children around the arena.

  When we first went to Womad some good friends came also on a day ticket... They had never been to a festival before, it was a brilliant way of getting a taster.

  Thanks for the questions SM.

  My thoughts:-

  When people arrive on Thursday and then some on Friday, they relax into the WOMAD festival vibe, and become chilled.
  I then notice on a Saturday or Sunday a large influx of people who look quite clearly like they are on a day out and just act differently, as they have not been part of this chill out period. I feel the vibration of the festival change to a more intense urgent energy. Perhaps down to what PD alluded to that some people are there to see a specific act, and therefore not part of the WOMAD scene.

  Perhaps if you are in a large group of family and or friends you have your own micro vibe going on so are less susceptible to the change in the whole energy.

  I agree there are other pros and cons to day tickets, my comments are from a purely selfish point of view, in that I do not like they affect day ticket holders have on the festival vibe.

  It is not scientific, it is not fact, it is my feeling and my opinion, if you do not sense the change and do not agree that is your choice.

  Or perhaps I’m just an old hippy talking psycho babble
