@ Purpledawn and other objectors - How do you know they paid WOMAD for the very small Symbol and the words "Embassy of Israel"? Perhaps they just paid/sponsored the act to appear and it was a condition of this sponsorship that they received a credit in the program.
Frankly if the Israel government paid for this 'advert' it was very poor value for money, I for one would not even have noticed it had the objectors on this forum not highlighted it.

Whose objecting to the presence of Israeli artists at Womad? The issue is the presence of an advert for the Israeli government in the programme.
Go back 30 years to the start of Womad. Would they have carried adverts for the South African government back then? I think the present organisers would and would probably put on a festival at Sun City if there was enough cash involved.

I was going to swear off this one now, but I can't let that one slide. I've had close contact with some of the Womad organisers whilst organising my wedding next year and they are most certainly not the money grabbing b**tards that you would like to portray them as. They are friendly, helpful, resourceful and intelligent people who definitely do not deserve your slander. They have bent over backwards to make us happy and they genuinely care about the festival . . . . AND some of them have been there for 15 years or more!! It's easy to judge when you don't know the ins and outs.

They can't be that intelligent if they're carrying adverts for an oppressive government.
What do you think the disenfranchised Palestinians would think if they saw that in the programme? Not a lot.
and of course they're being friendly and helpful with organising your wedding, you're probably putting a lot of money their way.

What's with the anti-Israel propaganda - when did we start picking sides? Don't start badmouthing Israel people - you know nothing!

I'm putting a lot less money their way than I should be, with all the discounts and free accomodation they're giving us.
They are intelligent . . . and have morals . . . far more than somebody who would slate an entire group of people they don't know and then mosy along and enjoy the very festival that those same people have worked all year round to put on.
Can't be doing with haters . . . don't know why you bother . . . I'll say no more.

For crying out loud, it's not an advert!
(in my opinion)

Totally agree with Trebor, for examples of what would constitute an advert see pages 20, 28 and 70 which will have likely been the result of cash being passed from these organisations directly to WOMAD. The image which has been highlighted in this thread is a logo which is very obviously the result of a sponsorship agreement between the Israeli Embassy and The Alaev Family and nothing to do with WOMAD as an organisation, for further examples of the use of logos in this sense see page 72 (Marewrew & Oki - Japan).

Hi S.C. I don't think the phrase 'swear off' is particularly unpleasant. It means I wasn't going to get involved . . . say nothing etc. xxx
