Been going for over 20 now so have seen the changes and firstly:
- GREAT fest thanks - two of the artists I saw will stay with me forever.
- The Loos were a triumph !
... but .. ..
Given its proximity to R3 and Charlie Gillet and the overlap of sets - The levels of bass allowed at the Big Red effectively spoilt a lot of the music at the two other stages. Marewrew for example waited for some time for the bass to calm down from BR, which delayed their set, and when they started the bass kicked in again anyway. Similarly at R3 - a stage where the sound is very good - the artists and audience were often having to play and listen to music with a massive amount of very intrusive bass thumping away in the background. The main and acoustic stages dont overlap for good acoustic reasons and the separation from the rest of the site is good enough for a festival - why then should the big red be allowed to dominate the acoustics of the other end of the festival site ? its bad acoustically and worse, its just plain rude.
Answer - Give the Big Red its own field ! or maybe base another festival around the wonderful bass heavy music that is beng chosen for it - I loved Portico at big red btw - but dont spoil the beautiful, different and (often) quieter music that we come to WOMAD for by making it compete with bass spill.
see you next year !

this issues has been covered in a number of threads (not that use comments are unwelcome) we just home someone at the big WOMAD tent is taking note

The more threads on this topic the better I rekon !

Well said triptothemoon.
Heres the links to previous threads re the BRT (Bass Really Terrible)
http://www.womad.org/forums/thread/XzccEEJzl84FZpkm4uc.
and
http://womad.org/forums/thread/OvWxhuODkf4Uy6cEsmM.
I have listed them just in case a miracle should happen and some big cheese (organic of course) should bother to read this comment and realise that there is an issue that bothers people about the sound quality from this tent.
Why doesn't Womad take part in their own Forum?

They may not actively contribute on a regular basis, but it's clear that they read it, as they have helped clarify various issues in the past in other fora (main website, FB, etc)

big WOMAD is watching

Not the first year BRT has been like that - last year was the first time i thought it was right on the edge of disruptive to other events.

we could be wrong but we think that was the year they change the company of sound engineers WOMAD uses

Last year we had a similar thread http://womad.org/forums/thread/D4wiwbAaRrORSmp8ZTg.?s=&o=date_added&d=a&p=3
and i was one of the protagonists.(troublemakers)...........sorry , deaf old git

It didn't seem as bad as last year so maybe some progress has been made... still more to do though
