PD - I have no idea how long it would take for me to get to Whitby. I'd have to get a train to Cambridge, change for York and then get little train to Whitby - do-able, but probably 6 hours. Mind you it takes 4 hours to get to CP.
The thought of camping at Whitby in Winter sounds very challenging!!

Yep!! Womads tours is the way forward - there could be several different ones. I'm sure they would be moreppraciated that have-beens comedy and musical acts running around major cities

And it will be easier than to get to Whitby!! - see previous post....

All - thanks for suggestions for other festivals; Celtic Connections sounds great & thanks for rhythmpassport.com - will definitely join!
Musicport - yes but I have no idea where Whitby is!

Aredorange - graet, will check, thanks!

I think my main point about the Womad tours idea is that - by virtue of being a tour - it would bring concerts closer to people so we wouldn't all have to travel to London or Whitby or wherever, and the Womad brand may encourage people to go as they can assume there will be quality music on...

JaminBlush- camping a celtic connections wouldn't be a good idea there are loads of hotels, hostel etc in the city, the local are mostly friendly but make sure your liver is in good working order as CC is well know for it's late night drinking for artists and fans alike. Also somewhere on the countdown thread are our post about last years CC
Follow this link to the website for some more info and if you have a look at who played last year you'll get a feel for what to expect

As for the WOMAD tours there was a WOMAD show in Glasgow on the Thursday of this years WOMAD hopefully it was the start of something bigger.

i think womad is often a highlight in my year and i look foreword to it all year from the moment i leave the festival... i work hard to save enough money so i can go and have a really lovely weekend. if it was twice a year i think this would loose the magical weekend that is womad, after all you can have too much of a good thing! i think its best left as a little treat =]

In all honesty - I am more than happy that Womad takes place only once a year in the UK, like XWMoeX I look forward to it all year, so when it arrives it's an even greater treat. I can go to other festivals and concerts in my area or London when the mood takes me / costs allow.

Cal N Del is/are dead right. Malmsbury is for summer. Glasgow is for winter. If you haven't been to Celtic Connections, it's like WOMAD for 3 weeks!
