Musicport's on again. 5th to 7th October this year and it's back in Whitby. Lots of good stuff on including Dub Colossus. Unfortunately, I'll not be there this year as our ceilidh band's got a booking that weekend - b*gger!

Oooh that's interesting, hopefully Samuel Yirga might be doing a few shows around that time

Only if we camp!

Bloohair, Whitby is over 5 hrs by train and 3 chages + a couple of bus journeys for me
I thought the festival was cheap, now I know why!

if your looking for a winter womad then head north
Celtic Connections in Glasgow at the end of January
There is a lot of "folk" music but every year there is more and more "world music".
Celtic connections is also famous for it's collaborations and last we saw some great one off collaboration (Irish fiddle band and African Kora player)

It's a really nice festival though for anyone who can get there. The two times I've been they had a fair bit of folk and reggae as well as some excellent world music and some comedy and stuff.
I joined the site rhythmpassport.com fter they posted about it on here a couple of years ago. It's brilliant. They have loads of world music gigs listed and you can taylor you monthy e-mail alert to your taste. You update your profile on their with what you are in to and they will tell you about the gigs they think you'll be interested in. Or you can just go to the site and see what's on that month.
We saw Cheikh Lo and Aurelio Martinez last year having found the gigs on there. Cheikh Lo was at a fantastic really small venue in London (apologies I forget the name!) right by Kings Cross station and the ticket only cost us £20. Aurelio was in Cambridge Corn Exchange . . . just down the road for us! Tickets £10 and another really tiny lovely intimate venue!
Well worth joining . . . doesn't cost you anything. xxx

African Soul Rebels tour used to be good, used to be in Feb every year as far as I can remember. I think it stopped last year?
