  There is never much queing at womad one year i had to que for five minutes at the toilets because some bright sparks personalised the loos by locking them after the came out giving the impression they were occupied.There is never much rushing at womad its really chilled . Camp in the family field its quiet really although we get told off every year for being to noisy i think we got told off for talking to loud one year we are actually considerate and we dont mind shutting up but if you wanna place your tent half a millimeter from mine dont complain get some ear plugs as we have the loudest snorer in the known universe with us....sorry! maybe we should put a sign up saying warning slightly noisey campers .id come for the whole thing there is so much to see iv been going for nine years and i still havent seen everything, you will be fine traffic is not really a problem family camping is not too far from yer car [red gate]it all very easy we even did it with a five month old baby no problem! look at it as a great adventure , bring a tent u can stand up in , some ear plugs ,some tent decorations, a bucket and some headache pills and you will be fine!

  Solly. Now I'm a 'mature gent' (or old git - whichever you prefer), I always stop off site in a B n' B. I usually arrive anytime between about 9.15 and 11 in a morning and leave between 10.30 and 12.30. It's always dead easy. I don't think any day's that busy getting on and off site other than Thursday and Monday and last year I went on Thursday evening and there were no problems. As others have said, Womad is generally really friendly and you will want to see more than you can on any one day. Or maybe just try it for the one day this year because if you get into the unique music, dancing and vibe that Womad provides, like me you'll be coming back for the whole weekend for years to come. I only started coming to Womad when my kids had grown up but all the kids I ever see there are having a whale of a time. Camping at Reading used to be crowded, noisy and badly patrolled (which some posters bizarrely miss!) but my impression is that it's pretty civilised in most areas at CP.

  People here are spot on. Family camping is usually to the right as you go through Red gate and is quiet- until the children wake upat 7:30!! Hellish din thereafter! Bring a torch, so you see the guy ropes.
  There is a massive children's area where costumes seem to be built all weekend for the Grand Parade all round the campsite and arena early on Sunday evening.
  What ever you do, just come and enjoy it.

  Today we got an announcement that they're going to make an announcement on the 25th may. Does anyone else find this irritating in the extreme?

  Womad need to understand that they are not the only kid on the block. If getting visa for artists is a problem please say subject to visa; I'd rather know the line up well in advance .
  Many will feel well disposed toward Womad but have eclectic interests and so may choose to attend another appparantly unrelated festival because they know already the line up. I'm a bit old for Glade/ Secret Garden Party but could do Lamer Tree with ease and there was an 'old school' dance festival at Bath race course this weekend.
  I prob. will get a weekend Womad ticket just to see old freinds but may choose a day ticket instead.

  I've been looking at the Cambridge Folk Festival and the Strummer of Love Festival and they both have a lot of bands announced and they're looking good. Womad has 30!

  I don't believe for a second that they wait until visa's are arranged and all that, because I don't believe that bands would put a Womad gig on their website if they hadn't signed on the dotted line.

  I read somewhere that despite increased attendance last year weekend camping ticket sales were actually down. I wonder if this is a deliberate ploy to encourage more day ticket sales and reduce camping tickets sales.

  I dunno what the thinking could be behind this secrecy really but it doesn't seem like a paticularly respectful way to treat loyal womaders.

  it is annoying to drip feed the bands it doesnt create any happiness for me as i like to research the bands playing before i decide to buy my tickets and you never know i might think of going elsewhere if some other festival pops up ! so get on with it ! we can create our own hype and excitement about going to womad ya know. Im off to straighten my tent pegs or should i buy some fancy new red unbendy ones , its brilliant!

  Solly, we started taking our children to Glastonbury when the youngest was about 6. Womad will be so much easier. Last time we went to Womad we turned up about 10 mins before the gates opened, there was noone else queuing, we were turned away and so just parked up the road and came back 5 mins later and they let us in. We counted about 50 cars in the car park before us! Picked a lovely spot and chilled out! It is great for kids, and there is space between the tents (not like the images you see of Glasto) As Standing Stone says have a look at the other threads she has recommended ....Have fun, stay chilled and don't force the kids no matter how good the band is far better that the kids are happy and you just grab what you can

  That's a big part of the fun for me to. Researching the line up and making new discoveries, making playlists and deciding what to snog, marry and avoid. I'll be doing that on the journey down at this rate.
