WOMAD

  We did loved the festival this year! Lots of great numbers, best of them Indian 'red lights' performance, a disappointment with ex-Who member on the last evening but you can't have it all.

  I just wish this festival was twice a year!! Maybe in the Royal Albert Hall or similar venue? Why not? It is doable, I'm sure there will be plenty of people willing to go as nothing like this happens in Winter in the UK.

  The last time Womad held a 3 day winter festival in Brighton in December 1992 no one turned up and it bankrupted them. I remember wobbling away to Jah Shaka in the Brighton Centre with about five others at 2 in the morning. I don't think they'll risk staging anything like that again.

  That's terrible - I didn't know.
  What do people think ? It is cheaper than going to Adhu Dhabi or Adelaide.
  It does not have to be as big as the one in Summer - half size & half-price?
  I would think lots will turn up.

  If you're thinking along the lines of a 2-3 day event then I think the additional accommodation costs, be it hotel or b&b, could put a lot of people off and I think that may have played a part in the failure of the Brighton Festival. That and the fact it was so close to Christmas so people's finances were probably already stretched.

  Maybe an event along similar lines to All Tomorrow's Parties might work, in other words hold the festival at Pontins or Butlins. Mind you, didn't I read somewhere that ATP could be forced into administration. Maybe that doesn't make financial sense either

  Not London, that would be far too expensive.
  However, a holiday camp somewhere sounds like a good idea.

  With other competing financial pressures, a second WOMAD would come very low down my list of priorities, as I wouldn't want to cut back on my regular gigs. I thoroughly enjoy the annual WOMAD 'holiday', and any more frequently would be too much of a good thing.

  Definitely not in running up to Christas - life's too expensive. But what about
  February - May? At some time during this period. Maybe a shorter event - 2 days? It will costs less , so there will be some money left for accomodation.
  Not in London - too expensive. Brighton sound good. A place with a bog hall/ halls and enough B&Bs.

  Tend to agree that a small fest / event would probably be too expensive, especially around winter time - even more especially as that is when Womad tickets are released.

  However, how about if they organised a series of tours? Get 2 or 3 Womaddy acts on per tour - or some more with colaborations - and take it round the UK. That way lots of micro Womads come to the punters, rather than the punters try to find a way to go to one mini Womad
