I don’t like the smell of tobacco smoke or even the smell of someone who has just been out for a smoke and then sits next to me.
However, I would protect the right for some one to choose to give themselves lung or throat cancer, or heart diseased or just to stink, just as long as they do not do it near me.
You're not allowed to lick other peoples pizza Baz.
If you smoke you're going to get increasingly ill and die. It's not good. It's a smelly and an expensive way to go. If someone chooses to kill themselves this way is it right that society should pick up the bill?
Sorry if this sounds harsh.
What about the savings on the pension payouts?
The end of life healthcare costs are so high there are no savings.
I'd start by banning smoking in all public places and anywhere where someone could be hurt by the smoke. After that I'd ban it outright and treat anyone who sells tobacco products as a murderer.
Oh dear it's all gone bonkers here
That would be the cannabis debate back on page 18.
non smokers die every day - some through no fault of their own other than their genes. A significant number also contribute to their end and at great care costs - alcohol, driving, dangerous sports. The arguemts not to provide health care are just as valid. Smokers have just been an easy target . Which is now shifting to obesity. I'm not advocating smoking or any activity but it easy to single out any group an apportion blame. It's usually because of the drive to reduce cost in the nhs via stealthy means not because our governments and institutons are genuinely concerned for our health but because it reduces tax for those who think they are wealthy enough to look after themselves and don't give a damn about anyone else.
Something will get you one day - just a case of what and when.
Lefty Commie rubbish rant over........................ well at least for now!
I'm a non smoker (ex smoker) but have no particular axe to grind but I had heard that the amount of tax raised from the sale of cigarettes is higher than the cost of care for smoking related diseases. If the Govt banned smoking it would be a net loss overall for it and everyones taxes woudl therefore have to go up. IF this is true (and I don't know for certain) then smokers are already paying for their own and some of our hospital bills. hmmm food for thought
