WOMAD

  The eldest attended WOMUD his first festival in 07. the tent leaked, we arrived on Friday pitched in a marsh, by Sat eve the tent was useless and we left on Sunday. BUT WE LOVED IT .He was 13 by a month the younger one attended for the next 2 years with us. Maybe the music is too elitist for them - see the other thread!!

  We started taking ours to Glasto when our youngest was probably 6. It was quiet easy for us as we went each year with a big group of friends and kids all of similar ages (The friendship group started from takings kids to school and meeting other parents). The group was probably about 25 strong, this meant that one or two adults could stay back at camp with all the kids around a camp fire whilst the rest could enjoy the night time festival, during the day also the kids would also go together in a gang around the festival giving the adults a break. Now though the kids want to go on there own. But I am hoping that when grand kids come along it would be so cool to go as a family group. I'd love to be grandad sitting by a camp fire telling the kids stories But that will be a while off yet. The time now is for Mrs SC and me to have a little "us" time

  Good Lord am I looking forward to having our 'us' time back for a while! Lol!
  We also camp in a big group of friends and family. But I'm still not comfortable asking most of my friends or family to give up their evenings to look after my girls! Especially as they don't have children for me to repay the favour. Generally it's ok though . . . obviously you have all day anyway n then me, my oh n my mum usually take a night each . . . although sometimes me and the oh get away with more as my mum is quite an early bird anyway!! Last year I did all the evenings back at the tent as the baby was 2 small for me to leave her anyway . . . so this year I'm doing NONE!! Mum and the oh are sharing it between them!! Yay!!
  I just hope that my girls turn into the 'Womad' type earth lovers that I want them to be!! xxx

  Scrummy, when your kids get to be teenagers you might want to escape away from them. I took mine a couple of times but then left them at home as they cost me too much and argued all the time. Thankfully they are adults now so don't tag along. Don't worry, they both have extremely good taste in music and better vinyl/cd colelctions than their mum.

  We started going to Womad as a family when our boys were 21 & 17 and have been very year since then (2004), with girlfriends if possible. At that age they did not want to holiday with us normally, but we are all into the music and vibe of WOMAD so it has been our family holiday. We don't spend every moment together but meet up for favourite artists, and to swap notes at the end of the day and for breakfast. We have had different friends of theirs and ours who have camped with us over the years which ring the changes. However this year my oldest's wife has decided she wants a change and they are not coming, and I am (secretly) devestated, as is his brother! Obviously this is their choice, and we can only voice our disappointment, but I am hoping that other festivals just won't be as good (as we found last year) and in 2013 they will be back (though then they will have a 6 months old baby which will change everything!)

  Never bothered with them myself. Have always found the normal ones quite acceptable apart from on a couple of occasions at Reading. Last year the guy keeping the ones nearest us in Park & Camp, did and absolutely splendid job, cleaning them after almost every use. And as others said, they were a long way to walk first thing in the morning and from the arena, then not open always when you want them. Would rather spend the money on something else!

  Awwwwww . . . Nellymc . . . your little possy sounds a lot like mine!! It used to be just me and my other half and our daughter . . . n we meet 3 friends there from where we used to live n camp together. Since then my mum and brother have joined us and this year his girlfriends coming to. :( Sad about your son this year but don't worry they'll be back!! And I've never done Womad without babies . . . my eldest was 10 months when we first went . . . and it is equally awesome so no worries there! xx Chin up! xxx
