While JY off counting shackled seals and Baz is build sea defences against the invading soft fruit with his hair we're off to the capital city as it's JAM day for us!!
and we don't mean making compote
It Del second and Cal's first trip to the Edinburgh Fringe this year and this afternoon we have tickets for Just a Minute
We have 5 shows in all today so the be no hesitation, deviation or repetition from us today

345 days to WOMAD and Del likes numbers that are in runs like that
Cal - "simple things ..........."

enjoy just a min and the BIG CITY!
wonderful sight of over 150 seals sleeping on the beach, surfing in on waves cavorting and fighting each other and singing..woooo!!
also thunder and monsoon followed by sun...

were just back, Cal has gone to bed (she feel asleep in the car on the way home luckily Del was driving) and Del is now winding down after the drive home (even luckier he didn't fall a sleep on the way home)
anyway back to today and it's been a but of adventure!!!
first up was Hanafuda Denki (A Tale of Fantastic Traditional Playing Cards) which we thought was going to be a serous piece of Japanese theatre about life and death instead it was a bizarre, lively and enthusiastic musical about the daughter of a dead family which owns a funeral home (which also offered to kill it customers to save wasting time) who falls in love with a living boy. The plot was a bit hard to follow (reading subtitles and trying to watch the actors at the same time is never easy) but we managed to follow most of it. The humor was very black at time and the some of the jokes were very rude which made for strange viewing at 1 in the afternoon, but that the fridge!!

Next was JAM and we had to queue to validate our tickets as although we had got "tickets" they send out more that the hall can hold and it a first come first service on the day!!! It wasn't so bad and after queuing and re queuing once we got validated we go into the show. We won't say took much about it apart for Janey Godley (she was very good at JAM) and Hannibal Buress (he only heard the show once and you could tell) were the special guest and Paul Merton and Gyles Brandreth (he took a shine to Hannibal) were the regulars. It was all good fun and very enjoyable!!!
Next was Susan Calman and we discovered we had left our tickets in Glasgow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we had just enough time to go to he fringe box office as we had booked with then and they advised us to go to the venue box office. Eventually after talking to some very helpful people we were advised they couldn't print off more tickets as it was a sell out but they would walk us around to the venue and if there were 2 seats left we would be let it. We were confident we would get in and sure enough we were allowed in just before the show started.
The show it's self was very funny and was all about her recent marriage or more to the point the fact she could call it a marriage as her partner is a woman. At the end of the show she mention that today she had just had her first piece of hate mail on the subject and then made an emotional and tearful plea for the people in the show to back the campaign for right for same sex marriage as it needed everyone to back it and not just gay and lesbian people. She told us that she was asking all her audience to do this but everyone in the room could tell that she had been really upset by the hate mail and we all filled the room with clapping, stamping feet and cheering voices when she finished. When we left the hall and we decided to wait for a few minutes in case Susan came out we ended up being the only people outside the doors in a large courtyard and we were just about to leave when Susan appeared, she looked like she had shed quite a few tears but was happy to speak to us and we both gave a very big hug and told her how much we enjoyed her show and thanked her for her honesty (on impulse Del also gave her his Korean fan to help keep her cool in the hot a sweaty venues in fringe). She thanked both of us but we could see she was still a bit wobbly after such an emotional performance and we were delighted to see her get even more hugs when we walked through the crowds as she left the venue!!!!!!!
PS she is tiny!!!!!!!!!

Next was the wonderful Antonio Forcione who play some tracks from his new album Sketches of Africa and was as wonderful as ever, he has played WOMAD and Del asked him if he would play again and all he said was that it wasn't up to him (email to the big WOMAD tent in the morning)

Lastly was Word Play who improvised a whole play from just the title "the onion king" it was very entertaining and a fun and gently way to end our day

Right it time for Del to get some sleep
