Don't worry SS. This is going to be my last Womad, and if I hadn't made the mistake of buying early bird tickets I wouldn't be going this year.
I was a loyal Womader but loyalty has to go both ways, and to me that means not taking the piss over the line up.
Happy?

Sincere apologies for all miffings; there really wasn't anything personal in it. Desert Traveller, I am delighted you are going and hope to bump into you. SkyBlueSaddler, I am sad that this will be your last Womad; I hope it is one that will change your mind or give you some fantastic memories to look back on

I must admit I've always found it a bit of a pain - and a mystery why Womad can't/won't give us the line up earlier! This could be the decider for me next year, as I've always wanted to go to Larmer Tree - but can't do both!
I didn't go in 2010, but if I'd known earlier that Gil Scott Heron was going to be there - I'd have made a supreme effort to attend!
And much as I love Womad - it's not sacrosanct and above any criticism!

I can understand the frustration some people may have if they're trying to decide which festival to attend based on the various line ups on offer, but I find it a little baffling why you would buy an Early Bird ticket and then fret about the slow pace of official announcements. I always buy Womad, Reading Festival & Glastonbury tickets long before any names have been revealed as I know I will always have a wonderful weekend and stumble upon many great acts across the various stages at each event, so I’ve always assumed that others who buy tickets early have a similar outlook. If not, it’s one hell of a gamble as festival tickets are far from cheap these days. Womad is not alone in staggering their announcements and I think GuilFest may hold the record for the longest delays
but for me this isn’t really an issue.

.......and there's still over two months to go

Stoking the coals on the very same train of thought!

In total agreement with Chas. Womad has never announced artists very much in advance of the event but I don't buy a ticket to see a specific act, I buy a ticket for the whole Womad experience and have never been disappointed by who is playing. I don't really like all this teasing though. I would far rather that they just announced a whole line up in one go even if I do have to wait to find out. It just adds to the excitement as far as I am concerned, whereas the teasing just gets boring.

I like the teasing - draws out the anticipation. But either way I know it's going to be good.

I don't get this obsession re the line up. I've never been to a womad that I didn't enjoy or that the bands I have never heard/ heard of are usually the ones to blow me away. As for researching bands - If they are not hitting the right beat or notes..... I move on. You can't see everything.
@ DT - I thought that the line up for Cambridge was not great.. not that the line up of itself would stop me from going. Shrewsbury Folk have a better line up.
Still....... you pays yer money!!
