From the About Us page of the Womad website:
"WOMAD - World of Music, Arts and Dance the internationally established Festival, which brings together artists from all over the globe. The central aim of the WOMAD festival is to celebrate the world's many forms of music, arts and dance.
As an organisation, WOMAD now works in many different ways, but our aims are always the same - at festivals, performance events, through recorded releases and through educational projects, we aim to excite, to inform, and to create awareness of the worth and potential of a multicultural society.
Peter Gabriel was one of WOMAD's co-founders:
"Pure enthusiasm for music from around the world led us to the idea of WOMAD in 1980 and thus to the first WOMAD festival in 1982. The festivals have always been wonderful and unique occasions and have succeeded in introducing an international audience to many talented artists."
"Equally important, the festivals have also allowed many different audiences to gain an insight into cultures other than their own through the enjoyment of music. Music is a universal language, it draws people together and proves, as well as anything, the stupidity of racism."
- Peter Gabriel"
A lot of posters have observed that the festival goers are now predominantly affluent people from the Southern Counties of England. It's a shame that more people from the rest of the UK don't come and the cost of travel may be what is putting them off.
Womad already has sponsors, how about doing a deal with some rail and/or bus companies to allow weekend ticket holders travelling from further afield to just pay £1 for their tickets?

Because WOMAD UK festivals have only broken even 3 times in the last 30 years?

The travel companies could subsidise the fares in return for promoting their brands.
This will probably result in Womad shifting more weekend tickets. Do punters who come for the whole weekend bring in more revenue than day trippers?

rather than subsidise travel cost may be an all year round radio station (on the web) would be a better way of promoting WOMAD around the world
promotional fare to encourage people to use public transport? yes, discounts became to live far away? no (and we travel over 300 mile to get there)

And it's uphill all the way home!!

I've got to agree with Cal N Del on that one......

Radio WOMAD all year round !!! Could heaven really exist ????...or am I only dreaming ?

or is this burning an eternal flame.......

Nope! You're just sat too near the fireplace.
