As well as a wonderful array of local and internationally acclaimed musicians, WOMAD Fuerteventura will be filled with treats and activities that befit any WOMAD festival.

Lead by the musicians themselves. An opportunity for you, the audience, to learn to dance, or drum or sing or even to simply listen to stories from the musicians and discover more about what makes them tick.

Over the weekend, children can join our talented artists in creating giant sculptures, and other exciting items that can be worn, carried and played during the WOMAD children’s procession as it winds its way around the festival on the final evening of the weekend.

The festival will be lined with the finest local and international market stalls selling delicious food and an assortment of crafts.

 

Getting there

Most visitors arrive to the island by plane. Fuerteventura International Airport is located five kilometers from the capital Puerto del Rosario and 40 km from Great Tarajal and connects the island with several cities in Spain, plus more than 30 cities across Europe.

It is also possible to reach the island of Fuerteventura (from the mainland or from Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife) by ferry using one of the companies which connect its ports (Fred Olsen and Naviera Armas).

Driving

Gran Tarajal is just over 43 kilometers from Puerto del Rosario, and about 40 minutes drive.

Puerto del Rosario (and Fuerteventura International Airport) connects by the FV-2 with Gran Tarajal and south of the island.

From the port of Morro Jable, Great Tarajal can also be reached by road from the FV-2. The drive is about 49 kilometers and approximately 44 minutes.

Parking

There are many parking areas in the city of Gran Tarajal, although during the weekend of the festival many of these areas may be inaccessible. Please check our Facebook page  (https://www.facebook.com/womad.fuerteventura/) where we will be publishing all the  information on available parking areas for cars and motorhomes as soon we have been informed by the local authorities.

Line 16 connects the airport to the capital of the island (Puerto del Rosario) and Gran Tarajal.

Accomodation
On Fuerteventura there are four distinct Tourist Areas: Corralejo, Caleta de Fuste (also known as El Castillo), Costa Calma and Morro Jable / Jandia.
Besides these four resorts there are hotels and apartment in other parts of the island, such as:

  • El Cotillo, with a few hotels and a good deal of Aparthotels next to white sand beaches
  • Tarajalejo, with a hotel on the beach in this small coastal town.
  • The Playitas resort with an interesting focus to the sport, with golf  course.
  • Puerto del Rosario, with several city hotels.

The hotels of Fuerteventura ranging from 5* deluxe hotels to comfortable 3* hotels which offer all inclusive deals at a competitive price.

They range from the big Spanish chains with an international presence (RIU, BARCELO, MELIA, H10), to foreign groups (SHERATON), through to local hotel companies (MUR GROUP, R2 HOTELS, HOTELS ELBA, SUNRISE BEACH HOTELS, TURICOMPLEX.

Camping 

The camping area of WOMAD Fuerteventura is located at the Sports City of Tuineje, located at Malagueña street, of El Palmeral. The access area is facing the C.E.I.P. Gran Tarajal.

Those interested in enrolling in the camping area must send an email to acampadawomadfuerteventura@gmail.com at least 48 hours in advance, and the request must be accompanied by a copy of the ID card,


The facilities have changing rooms with showers and bathrooms, WIFI and security service 24 hours.


The service charge is 15 euros per person (whether it is just one day or four).

The area will deal first come first served until full to capacity. Only tents are allowed in the camping area, no vehicles or motorhomes. Gazebos, tarpaulins, etc. are not allowed to be added to tents.
To access the site, where the entry of food and bottled water is allowed, you will have a wristband.

The WOMAD Fuerteventura festival is held at Playa de Gran Tarajal in the south of island, concentrating all its activity in the vicinity of the avenue, between the beach itself, the House of Culture, the Auditorium, the Recinto Ferial and the promenade.
