WOMAD Cáceres

WOMAD Festival takes place in the picturesque walled Spanish city Cáceres.

The World Heritage City is steeped in rich history and includes a unique blend of Roman, Moorish, Northern Gothic and Italian Renaissance architecture – making it the perfect setting for a WOMAD festival. 

It’s a free event and locals and tourists alike enjoy a true fiesta of sights and sounds of music from all around the world.

Driving

Cáceres links via the A-66 with Hervas, Plasencia and Mérida, Almendralejo, Zafra, Fuente de Cantos and Monesterio.

Cáceres is a 3 hour drive from both Madrid and Lisbon. Follow the A-58 to Trujillo for Madrid and Lisbon (for Lisbon follow the A–5 South through Badajoz and Merida) It’s also possible to get to Portugal through Valencia de Alcantara by taking the N-521.

From Ciudad Real you can access Cáceres through the N-430, travel through Fuenlabrada de los Montes, in the direction of Don Benito and Merida.

Parking

There are several car parks around the city:

In Avenida de España (or Paseo de Canovas) there is the Parking Avenida de España, centrally located, just 10 minutes from the centre.

Parking at Obispo Galarza is very close to the Plaza Mayor, as is the Parking Don Manuel, located at street Margallo No. 11.

At Parque del Príncipe there is a free open air parking lot.

The Centro de Recepción del Edificio Valhondo, near Plaza Mayor, has capacity for buses, caravans and cars.

By Bus

There are several bus services to reach the city of Cáceres, such as Avanza Bus. They run special offers for those interested in coming to the festival from Madrid, Lisbon, Badajoz, Merida and back. For more information visit their website.

The bus station of Cáceres is located at Calle Túnez.

By Train

Renfe trains provides the rail service between Madrid and Extremadura.

For timetables and fares for trains between Badajoz – Cáceres – Madrid, please visit Renfe’s website (http://www.renfe.com).

Cáceres’ train station is located at Avenida Juan Pablo II, 6 and is operating every day between 6am and 11pm.
