One word of advice is that the car parks at Red Gate are filling up fast and you may find the walk to camp longer from here, so heading for Purple Gate instead might be a better idea at this stage.

We hope you have a good journey and look forward to welcoming you at the festival!

A number of artists booked for this year's WOMAD Charlton Park have sadly had to cancel due to various problems with obtaining visas.

We have just received sad news that Asif Ali Khan (Pakistan) will not be able to make it to the festival due to this very problem. Happily, Sufi Women of the Islands (Mayotte/France) are able to stand in at last minute for Asif's performance and workshop and have just been added to the bill.

Dhoad Gypsies of Rajasthan (India) were also affected by visa issues and have been replaced by Children of the Khmer (Cambodia).

Kasai Allstars (Congo) had to cancel their whole European tour as they couldn't get the visas they needed. Their performance slots are now filled by Nortec Collective (Mexico) and Wasis Diop (Senegal).

Some handy Crime Prevention advice from Wiltshire Police

We are often asked about how we plan to tackle the modern festival plague of tent thefts, and even though last year's festival saw the level of crime drop to more than half that of our last year at Rivermead, we continue to work hard to achieve our aim of zero crime and to maintain our reputation as a safe family festival.

We have worked closely with Wiltshire Police to plan for this year's event and we will be: employing extra security staff and Police officers; liasing with Police forces around the country to identify known criminals who operate at festivals and may attend Charlton Park; increasing the number of covert security and Police officers in the campsite; erecting dummy tents across the campsite and observing them; employing night-vision equipment; utilising more CCTV cameras as this is how last year's offenders were caught; basing a Crime Prevention team in the campsite, who will be able advise people.

We know that almost all tent thefts occur on Thursday night and are organised by small gangs who have bought tickets to the festival. The first night is clearly targeted as people are most likely to have more money on them then, but people should remain vigilant throughout the whole weekend.

And don't forget that there are plenty of things you can do to ensure you don't become a victim of crime: leave high value items at home and deposit them in the Camper's Lock-up if you must bring them; get to know the people in the tents around you and keep man eye out for each other; place a tag on the outside your tent to identify it - if someone is caught, they will typically say it is their tent, but if they don't know the name or ID on the tag this may help the Police to detain them; place valuable items in your sleeping bag at night; keep your mobile phone safe at all times; beware of pick-pockets and keep an eye on any bags you carry around with you; read the crime prevention advice available at the festival; and be sure to report crimes or suspicious behaviour to the Police.

It must be stressed that the chance of being a victim of crime remains small, but being aware of the situation can only make for a more relaxing and enjoyable festival for all of us.

This will be the second year at our new home in Wiltshire's Charlton Park.

It's a fantastic venue in a beautiful location. This year they have very kindly let us have more land and we've put measures in place to improve and enhance the site.

Musically, this is one of the best festivals we've ever had, and I don't always say that. There are very many I want to watch including Orchestra Baobab, Martha Wainwright and the rocking Algerian-French trio, Speed Caravan.

Charlie Gillett returns to WOMAD

It's with unqualified delight that we announce that Charlie Gillett is returning to what he does best - presenting a radio show in front of thousands of enthralled WOMAD-ers.

This very special World On 3 show will take place on the BBC Radio 3 Stage in Charlton Park's beautiful arboretum and will be rather similar to that of his old Radio London broadcast - fantastic live performances, a little chat from some WOMAD artists and the most immaculate selection of global tunes this side of Mars.

Charlie says:

"When I said goodbye to the audience at the end of my show in 2006, leaving the stage to the Somali rapper K'naan, I really didn't expect to be returning two years later to pick up where I had left off. But here we are, and instead of being a cuckoo in the nest on the Radio 3 stage, I'm a bona fide Radio 3 presenter now. The show will not be live this time, but will follow the same format as before, with four live artists in two hours, interspersed with a few records as the stage is changed around to accommodate the next live artist.

Devon Sproule will play with basically the same line-up as on her own spot earlier in the day, but the line up for Sa Dingding is acoustic and quite different from the full band she will have played with earlier. Zuzana Novak is a British/Czech musician who has learned not only how to play the mbira in a typical Zimbabwean way, but sings very convincingly in Shona too.

Orchestra Baobab will play with just six members in a line-up that has not played anywhere before, as far as I know. They may be making it up as they go along, which will be all the more intriguing."

All performance times for Charlie's show can be found in his biog on the Line-Up pages.

Plus, Charlie has just released a double-CD of his favourite tracks played on the radio during the past year, which is titled Beyond the Horizon and will be on sale in the on-site WOMAD Shop. Tracks by several of the artists playing at this year's WOMAD are on the album, including Dengue Fever, Orchestra Baobab, Toumani Diabate, Shantel and Justin Adams & Juldeh Camara.
