I really like Kissmet. I saw them at Summer Sundae in Leicester a few years ago. I've never been to WOMAD before and I'm not any kind of puppet. I don't know how to prove that though. :-)

when Ravi Shankar walked on in London, he said that it had been billed as his 'final' performance, but that he hoped that it would be more of a 'semi final'

having said that, he's not a young man. I feel privileged to have been able to hear him play the one time I have.

I'm with Retrac on this one - what's a few trips to and from the car , at your leisure , with the odd beverage break and natter with mates ?
Peter - get a bucket with a lid for the urgent toilet trip and empty it in a loo - much handier and a bit less environmental impact on the lovely Charlton Park !!!

We did park & camp last year.

Best things - access to car as a safe place for valuables (we were robbed at Reading in 2006), access to woods for urgent kiddy toilet trips, less claustrophobic than everywhere else.
Worst things - MASSIVE queues for toilets, long walk from arena.

We would do it again!

Would love Santana, and the recent stuff on BBC 4 made me think an afro cuban band would be great like La Exelencia.

Also was looking forward to Fat Freddy's Drop last year but they were cancelled. Could we have them this year instead, please?

Also a ska band but how about Jerry Dammers Spatial aka ORCHESTRA?

I too am a bit fed up with the gentrification of WOMAD...sadly miss the Club Womad stuff. Seems like DJ culture is now no longer given any stature. We too will be giving it a miss this year.

I didn't enjoy the last festival. Sadly Womad lacks something, and after 13 years or so it really saddens me to say that. I won't be attending as I'm off to seek fun and adventures elsewhere. However, I've made some fantastic friends (you nerds know who you are), had some great times and have many very happy memories. Thanks Womad, but this year no thanks. Maybe in 2011? Maybe not.

Love to all my friends, hope to see you at a festival soon.

Anyone for Solfest and/or Beat-Herder?

We park and camp EVERY year....that is, we park in a field and forget the car for four days and camp two fields away. Bliss. It's the only way.

What Happened To The USA?

I was incredibly lucky enough to stumble upon WOMAD one year near Seattle. I had an AMAZING time. And that was my last opportunity. Does anybody know why WOMAD stopped coming to the USA? It's very disappointing to not get to be a part of this incredible event. I'm the type of person who loves taking people to these types of celebrations to expose them to new experiences. Now all we get is Nickelback. We're starving for real talent here. Please bring WOMAD back to the USA.

I wouldn't mind seeing Staff Benda Bilili at Womad . I saw them last year in Oxford and they were great .

But I really don't mind who I see , one of the best things about Womad for me is discovering new bands and singers that I'd never get a chance to see otherwise...

I'm currently living in Aberdeen and we are a little bit starved of the kind of artists that would play Womad .... although The Lemon Tree (club) does it's best .. !!

wouldn't mind seeing Madness too, even if it's madness - wouldn't of thought of them here, but would be fun!
Checked out Del Castillo on youtube after seeing it appear on this site and really liked them, def up for them too.
The singer Athena, though personally I prefer her more 'Greek' stuff with trad instruments to the more pop-py tunes

Am also definitely going. No inklings of what's to come yet...... Am keeping my fingers crossed for KOSMOS, saw them the other evening performing in Camden, it was totally rocking! Also Taraf de Haidouks, turtle Island String Quartet would be cool and different, fanfare ciocarlia and some African drumming - Yeah!!!! Can't wait:-)
