Champion mixer meets Balkan horns

The art of turntablism can attract a serious crowd, whether these be the chin-stroking cognoscenti in the front row or turntablists studiously attempting to outdo each other onstage through the use of ever-more-obscure vinyl. DJ Yoda has never been that precious; one-upmanship is simply not in his DNA. For him, it's always been about rocking the house, usually by allying his encyclopaedic music knowledge with a penchant for unabashed cartoon silliness. His latest live project finds him in the company of London's Trans-Siberian March Band, a rowdy 13-piece whose massed horns and percussion offer a trip through the musical heartlands of Eastern Europe - or, as Time Out perfectly described them, "Balkan ska meets Ottoman battle-punk". Today they'll be supplying fiercely blown live accompaniment to Yoda's rich deck of records on an excursion that could take us anywhere from Salt-n-Pepa's Push It to the music from Gameboy classic Tetris. Take that, chin-strokers.
