The British Arcade Fire?

When a rock band includes permanent roles for a violinist and a cellist (and, on occasion, can make room for melodicas and harps), you know they're different from the rest of the herd, that there's something going on upstairs, that the lights are on. And so it is with Revere whose wholehearted, full-bloodied anthems are not your normal fare. With their unorthodox choice of instruments and penchant for rousing, guitar-fuelled epics, they could certainly be seen as a British version of Arcade Fire. But Revere are far from any pale imitation and can change their shape and sound at a whim. Indeed, having recently toured with Toumani Diabate as a stripped-down acoustic four-piece, their transcendental reading of Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart (enhanced by Toumani's flickering kora) is a flawless study in musical reinterpretation. And that's not the band's only African pedigree; leader Stephen Ellis has also recently collaborated with Vieux Farka Toure. Like we said, the lights are very much on.
