Nansady Keita

From Guinea

Nansady Keita is a master djembéfola (djembé drummer) and an expert of the rhythms of the Malinké tribe from Guinea. He joined Famoudou Konaté's ensemble 'Hamana Föli Kan' to tour Europe as their second djembé soloist in 2002, again touring Europe in 2004 when they also toured Japan. Since 2006 he has performed and taught regularly in the UK.
Nansady was an apprentice of Famoudou Konaté, one of the world's premiere djembé drum masters. He features on five of Famoudou's CDs, and released his own CD in 2008 'Nansady Keita - Hamana Kalu'. Famoudou says about Nansady," The workshops and performances that Nansady Keita offers magnificently illustrate the one-of-a-kind musical tradition of the Malinké in Guinea. Together with the fine combination of traditional ability and professional experience he is an ideal and suitable representative for the culture of our people."
Nansady has conducted percussion workshops in the USA, throughout Japan, and is now based in the UK, where he continues to perform and teach. At WOMAD Charlton Park 2009 his djembé workshops are taking place daily and will be supported by his group 'Nansady Keita's Ensemble' an authentic all-Guinean line-up that Nansady is the musical director and lead soloist of.
