With a career that spans more than 27 years, Joan Armatrading has been one of the more influential female singers in modern history. So much so that VH1 included her at number 59 on their list of The Greatest Women In Rock.While her 1972 debut, Whatever’s for U showed the signs of vocal genius it wasn’t until her 1980 release, Me Myself I that pushed the soul singer into the hit realms. From then on the diva has pleased with her jazz-hinted, reggae-tinged elegance with a body of work, from The Key to Love and Affection that ranks amongst the more memorable of all time.In July 1999, as a delegate and honorary member of the Vienna Peace Summit 1999, Joan delivered a speech to the distinguished summit body of Nobel Peace Laureates, performed for them in the historic Great Festival Hall of the Imperial Palace and contributed to the benefit CD, Voices for Peace. She has also written a tribute album for Nelson Mandela.
