Master of the graceful bamboo flute “I have heard Guo Yue play his music, I have eaten his food and can guarantee he delivers in a magical way.” Thus speaks Peter Gabriel of this bamboo flute master (and culinary expert), a man who first came to our attentions in the West through the partnership he formed with his brother Guo Yi – the aptly named Guo Brothers – who soon became perennial WOMAD favourites. Now based in the UK, he’s also contributed to the evocative soundtracks of movies like The Killing Fields and The Last Emperor. Most recently, he’s given the world a delightful album for the Real World label, the mournful and nostalgic Music, Food And Love, also the name of his absorbing book of memoirs. As creative in the kitchen as he is in the recording studio, this weekend Guo Yue will also be exposing the WOMAD massive to his culinary talents as part of our new Taste The World event.
