CALO CALO means gypsy gypsy, and is the name of the exciting new Australian group whose passion is the rhythms of gypsy flamenco music from the south of Spain. Led by Spanish flamenco gypsy singer, el Titi de Algeciras, the five-piece group incorporates a variety of instruments into their performances including flamenco guitar, percussion, oud and sitar. Titi de Algeciras (Salvador Loreto) comes from a family of gypsy artists in Algeciras, Spain, whose tradition is flamenco. From an early age it was clear that Salvadors passion was for Flamenco, whether it be singing or painting. The Spanish and Flamenco cultural roots are a reference point for his paintings which he exhibited as a solo artist, or in major public works in Spain. Since his arrival in Australia, Titi de Algeciras has worked with all the major flamenco artists and groups including Antonio Vargas, Diana Reyes and Gabriel Heredia, plus Rembetico Flamenco and Los Gamberros.
